Meeting backgrounds FAQ
Where is the virtual background option?
If you are having problems finding the virtual background options, it is most likely you need to update your software or you are using an older or incompatible device (e.g. iphone or ipad).
Software providers are constantly updating their software with improvements for virtual backgrounds and many such as Teams and Zoom have main menu options that will check you are using the latest version and update if not.
If you still have a problem, check out the guides on our home page www.RoomForZoom.com.
What is the best size or dimensions to use for a background?
Zoom recommends backgrounds with dimensions of 1920px by 1080px. This is a 16:9 aspect ratio. If you use an image with a different aspect ratio, you may see black bars beside the background image.
Image files should not be bigger than 5Mb.
Video backgrounds should have a minimum resolution of 480 by 360 pixels (known as 360p) up to a maximum resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels (known as 1080p)
What bandwidth do I need for a video meeting?
Zoom recommends 600kbps for high quality video and 1.2 Mbps (1200kbps) for HD video
Teams recommends 500kbps for video calling 360p at 30fps, 1.2 Mbps (1200kbps) for HD video of 720p and 1.5 Mbps (1500kbps) for HD video of 1080p.
Skype recommendations are roughly the same as Teams though requirements increase as more people are involved in a call.
Do I need a green screen?
Whilst it is not required, if you are on a lot of calls it is worth investing in as it will produce much better results and they are relatively cheap.
